Background
The Foundation works with charities, NGOs, local authorities, and other agencies, and invites applications from such organisations across the broad geographical area of the Adur to the Ouse, South of the Downs. The core grant making policy of the Trust is aimed at the needy, aged over 55, in the City of Brighton and Hove and the immediate area.
Annual Grants
- Can only be made to organisations or groups, not to individuals (but see below).
- Are subject to availability of funds and at the complete discretion of the Trustees.
- Completed Applications forms and papers should be sent by EMAIL to the CEO.
- National Charity requests, to underwrite general expenditure costs are not encouraged, however this may be considered from local branches of such organisations.
- Annual Grant Applications are deemed to be for the Dodgson financial year commencing 1st April. Organisations will be informed of the result of their applications, hopefully before, or shortly after, the start of any new financial year.
- If an Annual Grant has been made in the past year, the current application should be accompanied by a brief report on how this was used.
Individual Applications
Applications on behalf of individuals should be made by third party agencies (not by the individual, their family or friends) using the “INDIVIDUAL” Dodgson form, which can be obtained from the CEO. Financial support may be offered in a variety of ways depending on what is required, be that goods or services. In all cases the applicant must clearly demonstrate a case for “need”. The decision to support or not, lies wholly with the trust. The Foundation particularly encourages cross collaboration with other charities and agencies and that other sources of finance have been sought on behalf of the applicant.
- For white goods, Dodgson have a special relationship with Carter’s Domestic Appliances (01273 628618). Where such application is to be made, first obtain a quote from Carter’s, mentioning Dodgson and put on the form the net cost, plus equipment details. If approved, Carter’s account will be settled direct by Dodgson.
- Second-hand goods are encouraged and can be sought from various sources such as SVdP / Emmaus / Hove YMCA / AFN/Martlets
- Dodgson does not accept any liability where grants involving goods are made.
- Any equipment / movables, acquired are “technically” on a loan basis. Organisations have a responsibility to keep Dodgson informed of changes which could result in such goods becoming available for re-use elsewhere.
- For respite care, grant applications can sometimes include the cost of carers
